Overview Of The Industry

The future potential of the country cement industry is strong. According to the industry specialists, the outlook for cement in 2017-2021 remains promising with an expected CAGR of 15 per cent mainly driven by the residential sector (Annual reports of listed companies). Growing housing up-gradation among individual homemakers is driving the major contribution in cement consumption. Industrial construction taking place in economic zones are also accelerating the growth.

Expansion Plans For Cement Giant

HeidelbergCement Bangladesh and China National Heavy Machinery have signed a deal to expand the Kanchpur plant near Dhaka, according to ENP Newswire. HeidelbergCement Bangladesh operates two cement grinding plants in the country.

Bangladesh Cement Production Capacity

Bangladesh had a production capacity of 50.2Mt/yr in 2017 from around 45 companies ofvarious sizes. Production capacity is expected to grow to 80Mt/yr by 2019. (Global Cement- 30 May 2018)

Bangladesh to become 3rd fastest growing economy in world in 2019

UN’s report on World Economic Situation and Prospects unveiled

Bangladesh will be the third fastest growing economy in the world in terms of achieving high Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2019, according to a United Nations report.

The report titled World Economic Situation and Prospects put Bangladesh only behind South Sudan and India. Bangladesh will expand at 7.4% this year, while India at 7.6%, and South Sudan to grow at a staggering rate of 8%, it said.
